Batchelor Heights Neighborhood Information

Batchelor Heights is a quick ten minute drive north of Kamloops city centre. Its name derives from that of Batchelor Hill, a local landmark named for Owen Salisbury Batchelor, an early settler, prospector and rancher who lived in the area. Batchelor Heights sits above North Kamloops and Westmount perched on a hill and has beautiful panoramic views of the city and river valley. Batchelor Heights is set among the Lac Du Bois Grassland Park, which is a popular area for numerous outdoor activities. Batchelor Heights has been growing over the last decade with new single family homes and townhomes being developed. There is a mix of new and mature areas including half duplex units to choose from.
Batchelor Heights Activities
Lac du Bois Grasslands protected area of 15712 hectares was established in 1996. Sweeping grassland vistas, spectacular cliffs and canyons, cool, dry forests, secret ponds and small lakes await the visitor to the newest grasslands protected area in the province. It rises north and westward from the hot, dry Thompson valleys through three grassland communities to the forested hills above. Nowhere else in western North America will you find these grassland communities in such close proximity to each other.
Many outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, fishing, hunting, pets on leash, wildlife viewing and snowshoeing are all popular. Campfires are only permitted at the Watching Creek campground.
Three is a small, fully fenced and centrally located playground within the Batchelor Heights neighbourhood for children to enjoy.

Batchelor Heights Shopping/Services

There is no retail or commercial shopping in Batchelor Heights. There is shopping nearby at North Hills Mall, a short five minute drive. North Hills Malls contains big name stores like Shoppers Drug Mart, Starbucks, Independant Grocer, Booster Juice, Mark's and many more.
There is also a Safeway grocery store, Canadian Tire and many fast food locations located within a five minute drive from Batchelor Heights.
Batchelor Heights Schools
There are no schools located in Batchelor Heights. Students in the area can attend Westmount Elementary School or Brocklehurst Middle School, Westsyde Secondary School or NorKam Senior Secondary School.
There are two private schools located on the North Shore of Kamloops. Our Lady of Perpetual Help (grades K-7) and Kamloops Christian School (grades K-12).
Thompson Rivers University is a fifteen minute drive from Batchelor Heights.
